Seaton Road takes the Apple
The Seaton Road development in Uppingham has won the Green Apple
Award for Environmental Best Practice in Community Housing.
The £4.2 million development consists of 42 homes for rent and
shared ownership and boasts a number of sustainability features
thanks to a grant of £30,000 from the Department of Trade and
Industry, for which POD successfully applied. The grant allowed 25
properties to have solar heating panels installed which will
achieve savings of up to 50% on residents’ energy bills. All the
properties are highly insulated and feature water butts. The scheme
also received an Eco Homes Level of ‘Very Good’.
POD worked with Rutland County Council, Uppingham Council and
Westleigh Developments on Seaton Road as a way to meet the need for
affordable housing in the area. Upon completion, the homes were
handed over to local affordable housing provider, Spire Homes.
Representatives from Spire Homes, Jefferson
Sheard Architects and Westleigh Developments attended the Green
Apple Award ceremony in November 2010 held at the House of Commons
to accept the award.

Commons and receive our award - I am absolutely delighted that we
have received national recognition for the environmental
accomplishments on the Seaton Road scheme. It is a fantastic
